Relational Therapist
Relationship Therapist Jack VenbruxAfter working for nearly 20 years as an electrical engineer, designing integrated circuits, I felt a hunger for a deeper connection to the emotional and relational part of me. I decided to make a midlife change and obtained a masters degree in counseling psychology from Mars Hill Graduate School in 2007. I feel I have experienced what it means to move from primarily an analytical, left-brained way of thinking, to more of a feeling/relating right-brained way of being, and to hold and value both as I sit with people. I’m excited about helping others discover new ways of relating, feeling, and being.

At Mars Hill Graduate School (which has no affiliation with Mars Hill Church) I developed an interest in how our early relationships can shape our capacity to care about others. I have a special interest in working with those who have experienced emotional neglect or emotional abuse—which I believe can leave scars that are harder to see but still require healing.

During my internship with the Mental Health Chaplaincy in Seattle I had the privilege to work with and be with many creative and generous people who had very complex life situations: such as homelessness and substance abuse. I have come to realize that we all try to escape pain and an important aspect of healing is learning to be kind to ourselves.

I’ve been trained in Relational Psychotherapy as well as LifeSpan Integration Therapy and have witnessed how both forms of therapy can work to help facilitate lasting change. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate under supervision with Dr. Stephanie Neill and Cindy Wuflestad, MA, LMHC. I am also a member of the Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Study.

I believe we have a spiritual component to our lives. I come from a Christian perspective and work with clients from a variety of different backgrounds, faith experiences, and world views. I enjoy the dignity, diversity, and complexity we share as people.

"The path that truly heals and redeems begins at the point when we realize we want more perspective, purpose, and passion in life."
